  2. BulletThe Veloce Observer’s Guide and Instrument Manual is available  as a google document. This should be your base source for information on using Veloce.

  3. BulletObservations are managed an observing queue (unimaginatively called “vq“). This manages target lists, calibrations and interactions with the telescope, guider and instrument components.

BulletAcquisition is done using the Veloce spectrograph itself .. i.e. once guiding on the target, we take short exposures through the IFU with the detector binned x8 in Y, and then use an acquisition script to reconstruct the object image on the IFU, adjusting the guider mark so that the object is centered on the IFU. The same code also gives us S/N and seeing information at the end of each guide exposure


  1. BulletAll science data is taken with a simultaneous calibration spectrum - either a laser comb spectrum or a ThXe spectrum
