School Colloquia Series: The atom as a laboratory for new physics searches
Tuesday 09th July 2019
Old Main Building, G59
Speaker: Dr Jacinda Ginges, School of Mathematics and Physics; University of Queensland
I will describe how atoms may be used to test the Standard Model of particle physics and search for new physics beyond. These studies belong to the realm of precision table-top measurements, and they complement experiments at the largest colliders on Earth. I will focus on atomic parity violation from an atomic theorist’s perspective, and the current status of the theory and the challenges that we face will be presented.
