Dr Stevie Curran - Further Information
Member of the International Astronomical Union.
Member of the Astronomical Society of Australia.
Graduate member of the Institute of Physics.
$40,000 from the University of New South Wales 2007 Goldstar Award.
Obtained the maximum of $20,000 from the Faculty
Research Grants Program 2005 and $10,000 from the School Research
Grants Program 2005 at the University of New South Wales.
Since
being at UNSW I have been awarded a total of $25,000 by The
Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) to
access major facilities overseas. Prior to this, I have had one
observing trip to Australia and a dozen to Chile funded by the Swedish
Science Foundation (NFR).
Following this, I successfully obtained a NS Global Fellowship (i.e. among the top six who applied for a Vice-Chancellor's Fellowship), 2002 - 2005.
Was accepted by Chalmers University and so awarded a ``doktorandtäjnst'', a scholarship equivalent to the full
Swedish professional salary, for the 4 years I was there (1995 - 2000).
Also, for all of my observations and conferences (see below)
I was financed by the Swedish Science Foundation (NFR).
For my Masters I was awarded the Science and Engineering/Particle Physics
and Astronomy Research Council (SERC/PPARC) grants, as well as a grant from the
Scottish Board of Education during my undergraduate studies.
Awarded the Higher Certificate of
Education - with distinction after my second year at Paisley.
On the Scientific Advisory Board for the Lifeboat Foundation
On the Scientific Organising Committee for Joint Discussion 21 THE ASTROCHEMISTRY OF EXTERNAL GALAXIES of the IAU XXV
General Assembly.
Created and responsible for the Damped Lyman-Alpha Catalogue and the UNSW
Department of Astrophysics and Optics' Astrolunch Site.
Have a review of Seyfert Galaxies on the NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database .
Completed the course "Becoming a University Teacher" at Chalmers.
My contribution to the SKA science case.
Fairly fluent in the Swedish language and have some limited Spanish.
While at Onsala I have been operator of the 20m telescope, Secretary for the Forskarkollegiet for one year and have given the "Radio Astrophysics" tutorials at Chalmers University.
Published my first article while studying for my Masters (see
above).
Have had a full British (European) driving license since March 1987 and in December 2000 obtained
my Chilean license via the new toughened theory exam (and various other tests) - in Spanish!
