I'll describe the workings of a novel instrument which was recently put into operation at the WHT 4m telescope on La Palma.

It's purpose is to determine the stellar kinematics of nearby galaxies, which it does by detecting planetary nebulae in those galaxies and measuring their radial velocities IN ONE STEP.
