Wavelength

Wavelength calibration determined using arc lamps, identifying lines of known wavelength.

• Pass light from arc lamp through instrument.
• Fit smooth polynomial (typically of order 3-5) through points, relating pixel number to wavelength.
• Attach resulting wavelength to spectral axis.
• Often `scrunch' onto uniform wavelength scale.
