Poisson Distribution

For counting experiments where the data is the number of events observed per unit time interval. It is the limit of the binomial distribution when p << 1.

Thus it can be described by a single parameter, tex2html_wrap_inline211 , the average number of events in each time interval. The Poisson distribution applies when the number of events observed is << than the total number of events that are possible.
