Auditions for wind, brass and percussion

5:30 pm on Tuesday, week one, session one, every year.
Registration for auditions is 5:30. You'll find out auditioning order then.
Prepare two short, contrasting pieces
Bring your instrument, and two copies of your music.
Also bring your diary and your email address

The auditioners are distinguished musicians who usually don't have a close connection to the orchestra. But don't be intimidated: they are friendly and helpful. The process is nothing to worry about. The official statement about auditions follows.

**************** WIND, BRASS & PERCUSSION AUDITIONS **************

Please forward the following information to any wind, brass or percussion players who are interested in playing in UNSWO in the forthcoming year.

UNSWO will be holding auditions for all wind, brass and percussion positions on Tuesday, Week 1, Session 1, at the Sir John Clancy Auditorium, Gate 9 High St, Kensington. All wind, brass or percussion players interested in playing with UNSWO MUST attend the auditions at the beginning of the year. (If wind players leave during the year, seasonal vacancies may appear, but usually the wind players remain for the whole year.)

Auditions are open to students, staff and alumni of UNSW. Potential players who do not fall into one of these categories, but play instruments of more difficult-to-fill positions are also welcome to audition. Sometimes such positions are harp, horn, oboe.

Registration:
* 6.15 to 6.30pm at Clancy Auditorium Foyer.
* Late arrivals will be asked to try again next year!
* You may need to hang around before you are required to audition.
* There are no warm up rooms (Sorry).
* Please stay in the foyer and wait for your name to be called.
* Auditions commence at 6.30pm and conclude at 9.00pm. If you cannot stay till 9pm you can try again in next year!

What to bring:
* Your instrument.
* 2 copies of two short, contrasting excerpts.
* Your diary (so that you can check concert and rehearsal dates).
* SOAP membership receipt/money.
* Your email address.
* Your student card (if you are a student).

Audition results will be posted on the School of Music and Music Education Notice Board in the Webster Building at UNSW (outside G19). (If we're really organised, you might get an email, too, but don't count on it!)
4. ***************** UNSWO String Players, First Rehearsal ************

UNSWO will be holding its first rehearsal on Tuesday, March 5 (Week 1) at Clancy Auditorium.

Please be in the auditorium by 6.05pm to help set up.

Please bring your instrument, student number and email so that you can complete your sign-up.

We are planning some big projects this year so attendance policy will be implemented (miss 2 rehearsals without warning and you're out). Also, you will be asked to complete details about your playing experiences. All this information will be used to determine your suitablility in the Orchestra. However, as always, string players will NOT be formally auditioned. All positions in UNSWO are at the discretion of the Music Director, the SOAP President and the School of Music and Music Education co-ordinator for UNSWO.

The first rehearsal (only) will finish early (approx 8.30pm).
