Silly Stuff on Station

I wouldn't want everyone to think we don't have any fun here. Much of our time is spent laughing about something or other. I will add to this page as the weeks go on, and keep you up to date with some of the silliness that occurs here.

We had a Women's Meeting early this season, with the Doc, talking about women's health on station, being a minority in isolation and a few other things. It was very useful and informative. A few of the boys felt left out and went to quite some lengths to join in. They make lovely girls don't you think? Robert, in the scarf, is channeling a Bavarian Farmer's wife somewhere back in his home country of Germany, and Larry, in the pants, I've been told has really nailed the essence of a 'Jersey Tart' - which is his home town...

    Frightening stuff, innit?

Ok, so life has a way of letting things go full circle. Only this week, a Men's Meetings was called, for similar reasons. Some of us girls thought it would be letting the team down not to return the favour. To out-do ourselves, though, we begged, borrowed and stole clothing from very iconic, specific blokes on station - some of these are frightening impressions. I am Allan, the Aussie nugget (I borrowed his carhartts and flannel, the gut is a pillow). He wasn't too impressed by the short joke though.

Al gets me to 'shear' him once a month or so with some clippers. As you can see, the coat is made for someone a tad smaller than our roly-poly Allan. But a pair of pincers does the trick...

Sunset was upon us and it was time to celebrate. The Germans and Aussies got busy in the kitchen and Allan led the way with this stunner...

Though the Germans take their strudel making very seriously, Robert (left) and Steffen, getting in the spirit of things.

The Kiwis arrived in star fashion, little suns one and all, from left, Johnnie, Jarrad (well the back of him), Vicky, and Kate.

Bill, our trusty Station Manager, has a few words as the start of dinner...

Then, really, it all went downhill. Balloons are *such* fun...I was Mickey Mouse for part of the evening. I think they even have me on film singing that terrible theme song. Eugh.

Not to be outdone, however, Steffen makes a lovely Carmen Miranda...

And this is what happens when you get bored on a Sunday afternoon!
