Low Temperature Methane (CH4) Line Data

This page used to provide a low temperature methane line list (suitable for modeling the spectra of Titan or the solar-system giant planets) as described in:

That line list is no longer available here. It has already been superseded by new laboratory data so I instead recommend the use of the following sources of data for the methane spectrum (these now eliminate the need to fill in gaps with assumptions about lower state energies as was done in the original list). Line lists are provided as supplementary information with the following publications.

Together these four publications provide an 80K line list (the WKC list) from 5852 — 7919 cm–1 (1.26 – 1.71 μm). Other line data including room temperature data and some line identifications are available from.

Outside this wavelength range data is available from the HITRAN 2008 database (Rothman et al., 2009, JQSRT, 110, 533-572) and from the STDS (Spherical Top Data System) software (Wenger & Champion, 1998, JQSRT, 59, 471-480). An online interface to STDS is available that will generate line lists in HITRAN format.
