In 2001 I was awarded the University Medal for Computer Engineering by the University of New South Wales, and by 2004 I completed Masters degrees in biomedical engineering and information technology. My engineering thesis, The Virtual Flute, won national prizes, including the Siemens Prize for Innovation. [J New Music Res 2006;35:183-96]

I am currently a senior engineer and researcher at Cochlear Limited, undertaking an industry-based PhD in collaboration with UNSW. I was the chief designer of AutoNRT™, Cochlear's first commercial artificial intelligence application. [Artif Intell Med 2007;40:15-28]

In 2006 I was named Engineers Australia's National Young Professional Engineer of the Year for career achievement and involvement in engineering and community affairs.
