Coping with Hazardous Substances

This is a motley collection of resources that may help you to get your workplace in order.

MSDS - Material Safety Data Sheet

MSDSs are required for all hazardous materials that are stored or used in the workplace. If the MSDS is on paper then each location (i.e. laboratory, store room etc.) must have a copy. You will need to get an MSDS for every hazardous substance in your workplace. These are supposed to be available from the manufacturer. There are other sources of this information which can be more convenient.

Sources of MSDSs

UNSW has a licence to this excellent source of many Australian MSDSs. There are also summaries of safety information for chemicals which are much more user friendly and accessible than an unhelpful MSDS. You will need your Staff/Student number and Unipass.
