Scholarships
Scholarships
for Australian students
If you have an
honours degree from an Australian university, you can apply
for either an APA scholarship, or an equivalent scholarship
from UNSW. These are usually awarded to students with first
class honours, but students with upper second class honour
degrees should also enquire about the possibility of scholarships.
From time to time, individual reseach groups offer scholarships
funded by grants.
Australian
residents with an honours degree may apply for an Australian
Postgraduate Award (APA). Applications usually close at
the end of October each year. New Zealand citizens may also
apply for this award if they have been resident in Australia
for 12 months.
UNSW
offers a limited number of University postgraduate awards
(UPA) mid year.
Information
about the APA and UPA awards is also available on the UNSW
web site at
http://www.scholarships.unsw.edu.au/apaupainfo.html
Application
forms for scholarships can be downloaded at

Students
must apply for admission to the university seperately to
applying for a scholarship.

International
Research Scholarships - EIPRS and UIPA Information for Applicants
Please
Note: For 2005 there will be no session two (mid year) intake
of applications.
UNSW
administers the Endeavour International Postgraduate Research
Scholarship (EIPRS) scheme (funded by the Department of
Education, Science and Training (DEST)) and the University
International Postgraduate Awards (UIPA) scheme (funded
by UNSW).
The
EIPRS and UIPA scholarships facilitate research by providing
international research students with tuition fees, medical
cover and visa charges (except costs related to visa health
checks) and a living allowance stipend in the range of Aus
$10,000 to Aus $26,000. Each year assistance is available
to approximately 70 students. Awards are made on the basis
of academic excellence, research potential, referees reports,
publications and previous research experience. Competition
for the awards is intense.
The
duration of the scholarship is normally limited to three
years (six sessions) for students enrolled in a PhD degree
program and two years (four sessions) for students enrolled
in a Masters by Research program.
