Abstract
Quantization of the horizon area of a black hole is discussed on intuitive level. Bounds on its spectrum from the correspondence principle and from general statistical arguments are considered. Such a spectrum obtained earlier in loop quantum gravity (LQG) does not comply with the holographic bound. This bound fixes the Barbero-Immirzi parameter of LQG, and thus leads to the unique result for the spectrum of horizon area.
