A closely allied research group with interests in low-temperature quantum transport studies of nanoscale electronic devices in AlGaAs/GaAs heterostructures led by Prof. Alex Hamilton.
Established under the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy, the Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF) links 7 university-based nodes to provide researchers and industry with access to state-of-the-art fabrication facilities. We are heavy users of the UNSW-node of ANFF for our device fabrication, particularly their RAITH 150-two electron-beam lithography system.
The Australian Research Council Nanotechnology Network (ARCNN) is dedicated to enhancing Australia's research outcomes in nanotechnology by promoting collaboration, exposing researchers to alternative and complementary approaches from other fields, encouraging forums for postgraduate students and early career researchers, increasing nanotechnology infrastructure, and promoting international links.
As one of the leading Physics departments in Australia, the School currently has 26 permanent academic staff, approximately 50 research staff and 30 support staff. Each year we teach more than 1500 first year undergraduates, and we have over 50 students enrolled in postgraduate research degrees. We have large research efforts in the areas of condensed matter physics and astrophysics, as well as research on protein structure, musical acoustics, optics, etc.
