Dessert

I think the most exciting thing that happened today was dessert, but I'll keep you in suspense and unveil dessert at the end...no peeking. We installed Nigel's software on the supervisor computer in the morning - I've been running it from my laptop. Before we started running it we had to work out exactly what timezone to use. We need to use universal time for the sun and moon positions, that bit was ok, but I've been using Dome C time on my laptop and the supervisor uses Sydney time. All the images and log files from Nigel will be timestamped with Sydney time...could someone remind me of this when, in three weeks time, I'm sitting in my office trying to work out why the image times make no sense in relation to the sun and moon positions at Dome C!

The day then continued on much like yesterday, Jon with head in electronics rack and me sealing the AASTINO. Jon received some instructions from Colin, our electronics expert back home, to: "Build a filter and wire it between the PC104 +5v and the PT100 board." Deciding that he didn't mean a water filter, Jon rummaged through our well organised trays of electronics parts and came out yielding inductors and capacitors...although I notice he didn't adjust the inventory list for
the parts he used....

A couple of Americans were meant to arrive on the station today to do some work on the 30m tower sitting out in the back paddock of the AASTINO. Unfortunately, one of them missed their flight from Christchurch and the other missed his flight from McMurdo, I guess they will arrive next flight, hopefully along with our other care package. Speaking of people missing flights, sitting down for coffee after dinner yesterday evening Jon remembered that our return flight from
Christchurch had left...hmmm...here's hoping that John changed our tickets. We tried to work out how long it would take us to walk from Hobart to Sydney...we think we'll be home for Easter.

Oh, dessert was profiterolles covered in melted chocolate and crushed nuts...I think the best dessert so far.
