Facilities

The Research Station has a range of facilities to cater for individuals and groups engaged in education or research at the station. A list of accommodation and indicative tariffs is found under the 'Accommodation' link. A quote on tariffs can be obtained from the Director. The Station is developing an ecotourism facility for visitors and a research program for conservation volunteers. Even so, all visits to the Station must be by prior arrangement with the Director or his delegate and must be compatible with the Station's research and teaching mission.
General facilities include a separate office and laboratory block, small library with three networked PC workstations and whiteboards, conference area (maximum capacity 100) with projection screen, slide, data and overhead projectors, phone in all buildings, fax and email (2-way satellite broadband). There is no coverage for GSM mobile phone networks. CDMA and NextG coverage is only found in the far western part of the Station and not at the homestead complex or in any buildings. The only coverage across the Station and at the Ochre House is for Globalstar or Iridium mobile satellite.The station has UHF radio communications in most buildings and all vehicles.
The Station has five interpreted eco-trails ranging from an easy 1-2 hour walk to an 8 hour overnight hike, a bird hide on a large but ephemeral water body and a hide at a night-illuminated waterhole. Buildings

Office/Laboratory: The office complex has a small library and lecture facility, photocopier, computer workstations and a laboratory. The office computers are networked to broadband (2-way satellite) internet access.

Laboratory

Other: The station has a well-equipped mechanical workshop and some earth-moving plant. A Toyota troop-carrier is available for daily hire to qualified drivers. All power on the station is 240 VAC grid mains.
