General Tutorial Questions
for Week 11
In "normal" (i.e. flat, or euclidean) space, when you move an object of fixed
size away from an observer, the angle subtended by that object at the
observer decreases linearly with increasing distance. However, in curved
spaces, things are not so simple.
Specifically, it is possible that an object of fixed linear size
will subtend a decreasing angle at the observer, but at some distance
from the observer, the subtended angle will actually start to increase.
To demonstrate and explore this effect bring the following items to the next
tutorial:
- a few balloons
- a few matchsticks
- a felt pen
