Research Interests
Several years of Andre's working life has been located in cold climates in Canada, the Arctic and Antarctic. All of 1995 was spent living on an ice shelf at the British Antarctic Base of Halley (75oS, 26oW). Ph.D. work involved constructing and operating a High Frequency radar at Australia's Mawson Antarctic Station. The data collected at Mawson investigated the dynamics of the high latitude mesosphere. Later work at Saskatoon, Canada, also concerned winds in the mesosphere and combined radar winds and measurements of airglow from a Doppler Fabry-Perot instrument. The most recent tour to Antarctica was as a general engineer, responsible for the reliable operation and data integrity of several geophysical instruments. Current work at The University of New South Wales (Astrophysics) is working with the team building the Australian Astrophysical Site Testing Observatory (AASTO), scheduled for deployment at the South Pole in December of 1996.
