MUD refers to all primarily text-based Multi-User Dimensions. MUD technology can be used for education in various ways. To connect to a MUD, you can use a telnet client, but better find a specialized Client In education, MOOs (MUD, Object Oriented) are most popular since they have a sophisticated built-in programming language.

MUDs (and especially the MOO variant) can be be characterized by:

  • Many persons can connect simultaneously to a server.
  • The MUD has a spatial organization, e.g. people interact with people or objects primarily within "rooms".
  • Within a MOO, many real time communication actions exist, like "saying" or "emoting" things publically to the persons in a "room", paging people elsewhere, "whispering" messages, using a "CB" channel, etc.
  • Asynchronous communication tools include internal e-mail, Newsgroups, News papers, tutorial rooms, "white boards", etc.

The Health Care Game consists of two web sites.

The first site at www.itl.usyd.edu.au/health is the front end of the game. Students log on to this site to play the game.

Visit this site and click on "About the Game".

Have a look around the game using the Username - Guest and Password - Guest.
Select "demonstration game"

The second site is the administration site at www.itl.usyd.edu.au/health/admin
Here you can also log in with: Username - Guest and Password - Guest

The administration site allows you to see how: game profiles are set up, students and groups are added, dicussion forum contributions and event questions are marked.

Please note that not all administration functions are available to guests. Eg it is not possible for you to view the answers to the current events and there are no discussions forums to review in the demonstration administration site.
