Astrophysics from Antarctica - the first IAU Symposium ever held in this field - will bring together the remarkable and diverse range of astrophysics taking place on the Antarctic continent. The Symposium will explore the special properties of the Antarctic environment that facilitate the conduct of astronomy on it. It will consider the science that has been accomplished and that which is being undertaken in Antarctica. It will examine the latest developments in facilities on the continent. The opportunities for parallel developments for astronomy in the Arctic regions will also be considered. The Symposium will end by reviewing the requirements for future facilities; those needed to address major astrophysical problems and the investigations that could be best pursued with facilities built on the Antarctic plateau.
