Lerwen
Lui completed her PhD in Physics in 1995.
I
am currently the Managing Director of nABACUS Ltd, Hong Kong, a
leading nanotechnology investment house and consultancy in the Asia-Pacific
region. Before this I had many years of experience working at a
Tokyo-based US science and technology information company, providing
information services worldwide to customers in industry and government
bodies. I have visited a comprehensive range of nanotechnology organizations,
industry and governments in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and
the United States, promoting global policies on nanotechnology.
I consult worldwide high-level policy makers on government and industry
nanotechnology programs and R&D planning. I am particularly
interested in promoting nanotechnology development in the Asia-Pacific
countries including China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and
Australia.
I
am also a co-founder of the Asia Pacific Nanotechnology Forum (APNF)
and was recently involved in organizing the inaugural APNF symposium
in Tsukuba, Japan. The APNF 2002 brought high-level government,
corporate planning personnel and investors from around the world
together in Japan to exchange ideas and to build close ties in nanotechnology
policy planning, commercialisation and investment strategy.
I
chose to study physics because I believe physics is the most fundamental
of the sciences and provides the key to understanding the underlying
principles of the universe. My physics training at the University
of NSW, particularly my PhD training, provided me with very important
technical skills in understanding nanotechnology and the ability
to provide valuable assessments in nanotechnology to my clients
- both in industry and government
