This subject provides a general overview of astronomy and astrophysics and the issues of importance to this area of science. Astronomy is a one-session subject designed to give students from a non-scientific background an appreciation of the techniques, discoveries and excitement of modern astronomy, as well as an introduction to some of the broader issues relating to science and technology in society.
Astronomy is offered as both as a one-session course in both S1 and S2 and in compressed mode, as a 2 week summer session course, X1. The lectures are given by emminent professional astronomers, recognised internationally for their contributions to astronomical research.
